Teens Birthday Party

Writen by Sean Carter

A great Teen Party is made up of three core ingredients- music, food and fun. Teens usually enjoy their birthdays by only having a fun time with their friends, dancing and gorging on their favorite stuff. Therefore, to make a Teens party absolutely terrific and congenial, the elders should compose a perfect party planning but without really appearing on the jamboree. They are not much ardent on playing games, so some feet tapping music in addition to good food is all that will make the teens go rock the party. Some movies of the Birthday Boy or the Birthday girl and his/her friends' choice can be brought to add to the glory.

Teenagers may be perfect content calling their friends over the phone to attend the party. Invitations can be printed on cards and distributed. This is a way of discouraging unwanted guests. The invitations cards should have a mature layout.

The party themes should be very lively, enjoyable and at per with the age of the invitees. Teens Birthday party can also be celebrated outside. Gals of this age usually prefer to have a blast outside home, very personally. Salon party is one of the most famous parties in town among these ages since girls have a transition from dolls to make up at this time. So take them to a newly opened salon in the town and see them having a gala time there pampering their rosy cheeks and golden locks. Celebrating Birthday in a restaurant or a club or even watching movies are also some favored ways of delight. Halloween party, Valentines party, Mystery party, Fortune Telling party, Limo Romp and Titanic party are some of the eminent party themes loved by the Teens. Sweet sixteen birthday parties are also practiced with great pleasure in many western countries. Strike up the band and celebrate your child's most awaited birthday party with some rock n' roll music. Duran duran is one of the most favored songs often played in birthday parties. Rocdoc, Miss Anne, Various Singers, Sonya Mendez and Hillz are some of the hip hopping musical albums that can turn the party into a boom. Hard Metals are a no-no on birthdays since they are really brainstorming and are not enjoyed by everyone.

Whether it's an intimate celebration or a birthday blow out, food is loved by all and sundry. A palatable Birthday buffet makes a party absolutely exhilarating and the guests as well as the Birthday boy or the Birthday girl gets enamored by the cuisines. Some of the favored cuisines are Roasted garlic- thyme soup, sautéed chicken in Albarino wine sauce with wild mushroom Pomes anna, arugula, radicchio and endive salad, chocolate raspberry Bavarian cake and coffee almond ice cream cake with dark chocolate sauce. Cocktails and syrups also play a key ingredient in the course.

Birthday gifts are other most astounding items that make a birthday teen feel special.

Make up kits, digital camera, pop star karaoke and music games, audio gear for road trips, cases for the ipod video, great soundtrack cds from hit TV shows, recycled glass jewelries, skinny and stylish watches, tiny sport mp3 players for active listeners, best friends photo albums and frames, Harry potter books and boxed sets, plateful chocolates and cookies are some of the gifts that perk up the mood and brightens the face of the birthday teen with joy.

Let your teen take the decision. If he/she says a no to any formal party, let them enjoy their birthdays on their chosen way. Teens dream of this day to come so do not do any mistake of inviting wrong guests for the party or even choosing a theme which is not liked by your child. A backyard bash is something which the teens usually take pleasure in instead of a formal party at home. Remember- the goal is for the birthday star to have a memory to cherish.

Planning For Retirement Activities

Writen by Henry Clark

Retirement doesn't mean the end of an active lifestyle. Quite the contrary, it opens up new opportunities for many new activities. Some retirees substitute voluntary community work for their former work. This gives definition or meaning to their roles after retirement.

Household work, volunteer work, family roles and community service actually increase after retirement. The familial roles of grandparents increase because of the expanded time available for travel.

The skills and knowledge acquired before retirement have value in the life of a retiree. Even if learning something new education and training affects the ability to do various activities at retirement. Lack of skill and a low literacy tends to limit the leisure activities of retirees.

A very difficult task to prepare for later on in life is the ability to cope with losses that increase as people get older. The productivity is the first loss in retirement but adjustment usually is short. Loss of a spouse generally has the biggest impact, and in general is the hardest to anticipate unless a terminal illness is diagnosed before death. The best preparation for a loss of spouse is to work on a sense of independence and self-reliance.

The two biggest concerns for retirement living were security of finances and health coverage. This is according to the GSA (Gerontological Society of America). Another great concern identified was isolation or lack of social support for well-being and loneliness or lack of support for emotional well being.

Planning for retirement must have preparation for financial well-being, a social support network, a set of meaningful activities and health care coverage. All of these concerns actually relate to each other. When a retiring person has a sound financial plan, the person can buy adequate housing and health care coverage. Retirement lifestyle is a continuation of the person's middle-age life.

A sound lifestyle can last a long while. Friendship and family can provide the support network later on in life. Retirement planning which includes developing economic and social skills cannot anticipate everything but provides a good foundation for enjoyment of life later on.

A successful retirement living includes the creation of a network of groups, family members and friends. Few people choose to be alone from the rest even if approximately forty four percent of women and roughly 18 percent of men aged 65 or older lived without relatives. Fifty percent of women above 65 were widows.

Color Your Genealogy

Writen by Janet Nugent

If you're doing your family's genealogy, you're probably familiar with the charts and the family trees, fan charts, lineage charts, etc., with all the names and dates of your ancestors. Your charts may go back 5, 10 or 15 generations, with all the documented dates of birth, marriage, death. But how much do you really know about those people? Try to add a little "color" to your ancestors, by giving a fuller picture of each person. Do you have any photos of them, any of their belongings, or stories about them? Granted, the longer they have been gone, the less chance you have of finding any of their things. However, you can try to document as many of the more recent ones as possible.

Photographs are good to show us what they looked like. If you're lucky enough to find photos of someone from childhood through adulthood, you will have a pretty good idea of what they looked like, as well as possibly what other members of the family looked like. You may get an inkling of their income level from the clothes they wore or other items in the picture. Remember, though, that they very well could be dressed in their best clothes, whether for the photo, or because of the occasion. If the photo was taken by a professional photographer, any other items in the photo may very well be the photographer's props.

Diaries, journals and letters can give a good insight into what was important to the person writing them. They may also speak of other family members and relatives, as well as friends. This may help you to better piece the family together, or even locate them in census records, since oftentimes family members and neighbors would move to a new area together or join family and friends who migrated earlier.

Books that a person owned (or even wrote) may tell you what his interests were, or how well-educated he was, be it formal education or not. Any stories or poems they wrote would reflect their interests and feelings. Cook books may have been hand-written, in which case they might have been that cook's favorites, or family favorites written for a new bride. Or printed cookbooks with notes written in, or pages marked, might also be an indication of well-used recipes.

Tools might tell you more about a persons occupation, or merely a hobby. You may have to do some detective work to find out what unusual-looking tools were and how they were used.

Textiles and needlework may reflect the interests of the women in the family. There are many different types of needlework that are used by someone at any time. However, there are some forms that were more prominent during a particular time period. Quilts, comforters, embroidered sheets and pillowcases, tatted collars, needlework samplers, Berlin work, lace making, tambour work, trapunto, all had their periods of popularity. Identifying what type of work it was may help narrow down the time period in which it was made, which, in turn, may narrow down the women who might have made it.

Sometimes there are items passed down through the family. They may be furniture pieces, clocks, a special vase, china sets, family Bible, military ribbons, quilts, wedding or christening gown, jewelry, or any number of things. It's important that the stories that come with these items are recorded and preserved.

Don't forget to document the stories. Write down the ones you recall hearing years ago. (Double-check for accuracy with other family members.) You might even do some oral history, sitting down with older family members and recording their memories of family, growing up, school, church, jobs, etc. Wouldn't it be interesting to find out that that serious-looking man in the photo was your great-grandfather, and that he actually had a sense of humor and loved jokes? Oral history is best collected with the use of tape recorders. These tapes should then be transcribed into a format easy to store and share with other relatives.

Lastly, don't forget the living! Family trees start with a living person and work backwards. When a future family member starts their tree, you may not be around anymore to answer questions, so be sure to include photos, stories, and documents about yourself and other living relatives. Make your family tree truly a living and long-lasting tree.

By paying attention to these types of sources as you do your genealogy, you can easily turn some of your "Black & White" ancestors into "Full Color" people.

Genealogy is one of her passions, along with preserving the more tangible aspects of family history, and using these heirlooms to tell the story of family members. A Useful Check List When Considering A Storage Facility

Writen by Aaron Brooks

Self-storage is a popular option with people who are moving, expanding, or are collectors. Long term lease of self-storage benefits those who want to store things that are too large or too many to keep at home or in the office and yet valuable enough to retain and not give away.

Once you have decided that a storage unit is essential to your smooth function you need to make up your mind whether you would like self-storage or pick up and delivery storage.

Use a check list like the one we have designed when considering a storage unit:

1. Determine how far the unit is from where you are and whether the roads are accessible even in bad weather. Also check out whether the area is prone to flooding.

2. Find out whether the self-storage company offers any discounts and whether they offer free pick up of items.

3. Make a list of the number and size of things you wish to store and then check out the various sizes of units on offer. Choose one that will accommodate your things comfortably. Also consider whether in the near future you may be adding many more things to the unit. If yes, then opt for a larger unit.

4. Be sure to check the facility at least twice. Determine whether the units are clean and whether the surroundings show any signs of rat droppings or insects like white ants or cockroaches.

5. Ask about security arrangements. Find out whether the facility has 24 hr guards, surveillance cameras, inspections, smoke detectors, or alarms installed.

6. Find out whether the lock and keys will be provided or whether you will need to bring your own.

7. Find out about insuring your things and also whether the facility is maintained in accordance with rules and regulations of safety.

8. Find out whether you will have 24/7 access or whether they facility will charge you for operating your unit at inconvenient times.

9. Many units have climate control find out as much as you can about whether the unit has climate control and about humidity control.

10. Be sure to ask whether they have had any break ins .

11. Ask for references from users and do check them out.

As a user it is up to you to ensure that your things remain safe. So, before signing a lease or making payment ask to read the contract and check online whether there are any complaints about the company or negative comments. Sites which give information are: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/movers/storage_lockers.html and www.complaints.com/directory/2005/april/6/12.htm .

Be a knowledgeable person and make the effort to determine how reliable the companies are and do a comparison shopping before choosing a service.

Reap the benefits of self-storage but protect your interests.

Wild Animal Party Ideas

Writen by Gail Leino

There are quite a few choices if you want to have a party with an animal theme. A safari or jungle theme are creative and fun (guests can dress in khakis and/or wear safari hats). An animal theme party is not only fun and exciting for kids; adults will also enjoy this amusing experience. Who wouldn't love to be transported into a world of nature most people don't get to come close to?

Play a CD of jungle sounds by the party's main entrance. Use green streamers to decorate or use large cardboard cut outs of different animals displayed around the room. The favors for the party need to be considered carefully. The best favors for adults are items that they can use on an everyday basis; think about handing out personalized pens or candles.

If you would like to have a party theme set around animals, also try a circus or Noah's ark themed party. (These themes are better for a younger child's party) Guests can be offered a range of props in order to imitate their choice of circus character. Rent popcorn or cotton candy machines, hire a clown and serve candy apples. A Noah's ark theme is also perfect if you're throwing a party for twins. Use different colored balloons to create a big rainbow balloon arch. Stuffed animal toys displayed in pairs around the room or in the center of each table would create an atmosphere perfect for anyone looking to get in out of the rain.

With whatever animal theme you choose, your party is sure to be special and memorable with each creative or unique personal touch that you put into it.

10 Simple Steps To Avoid Phony Telemarketers

Writen by James H. Dimmitt

Although telemarketing calls should diminish, especially if you've registered for the national do-not-call list, scam artists are still out there hoping to con you out of your hard earned money. Scam artists don't care about breaking telemarketing sales rules because most are fly-by-night operations that change names and locations quickly before they are caught by authorities.

Fraudulent telemarketers' favorite victims are the elderly and those on fixed incomes. Why? Because it's easy for the phony telemarketer to get them to let their guard down especially when they hear "you've won a prize!" After all, we all like to win things don't we? The problem here is that the caller asks you to send them money in order to claim your prize.

Don't send any caller money if they :

1) refuse to stop "selling" when you say "no".

2) ask for a credit card number in order for you to claim your prize.

3) offer to send a representative or courier to pick up a fee associated with winning a prize.

4) claim another company you dealt with went out of business but you can still claim your prize for a fee.

5) offer to recover money you've lost in a previous con for a recovery fee.

6) try to convince you that this is a once in a lifetime offer and that you must act now.

7) refuse to send you anything in writing to verify your prize.

8) claim that the promised prize is guaranteed.

9) introduce you to a supervisor who congratulates you on being such a lucky person.

10) introduce you to a supervisor who verifies you as the guaranteed winner.

Anytime you are contacted by a caller and asked to send money in order to claim a prize, you should:

1) Ask them to remove your name and number from their contact list.

2) Answer any sales pitch or fee request by saying "no" and end the call immediately, even if the caller continues to talk.

3) Contact your state attorney general's office or your local better business bureau.

4) Contact your local police department and report any suspicious telemarketing calls.

Fraudulent telemarketers are criminals. You win the real prize when you don't fall for their phony telephone lines.

Artistic Face Painting Designs For Kids Families And Party Goers

Writen by Yai Prakanorn

Although tattoos have become all the rage in the west of recent years, I still have to say that I think tattoos on woman, and particularly big tattoos and those on the arms, neck, and face, are nothing short of grotesque. I wonder how many of these young women think about how they will look when they are old ladies bouncing their grandchildren up and down on their laps with floppy images that have become impossible to recognize due to aging flesh!

Hmm! Anyway, that's enough of my opinions of the permanent markings of young adults as I'd like to write about the entertaining and temporary way to paint the body and in particular the face. That's right, kids are getting into body art too but for them it's fun, it's amusing, and most importantly, it's washable.

Face painting designs come in all forms from fairies, butterflies, and pretty patterns for the girls, and perhaps dragons, beasts and ghouls for the boys. In fact, face paintings are limited only by the designers own imagination. One thing's for sure, the kids love having their faces painted and it's just great to see them get excited as they flick through the catalogue of face painting designs.

Clowns are perhaps the most popular for the lads whereas the beautiful butterfly designs are favored by the girls. Butterfly designs are more difficult and often the wingspan is stretched across the face from eyebrow to eyebrow and down along the cheek bones.

Whichever face paint designs your kids prefer, the good news is that you can find these face painters quite easily nowadays and it's not just for summer fun either. Parties, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, in fact you name it there are themes for every occasion or quiet often, it's simply a treat for the kids just for being good.

But here's the weird thing! Face painting used to just be popular among the kids, but now many adults are getting into the fad too and one fashionable form of new-age face painting for grownups involves decorating a face according to a famous painting such as the Mona Lisa for example, or American Gothic. These are really fascinating to look at as they also include the picture frame into the design. National flags, and maps are becoming common too, especially at sporting events.

I guess it's nice to see folks lightening up in a world that seems to be increasingly more hostile and serious. Let the kids be kids and the adults be childlike, that's what I say! Face paining designs definitely bring out the spirit of fun and laughter into any event. Oh, and don't forget, although it's the face that gets painted the most, you can actually get any part of your body decorated with this washable art, so don't be coy!

Just to finish on, as I started with rather a harsh criticism of tattoos and women, I'd just like to mention that there is a growing trend with temporary tattoos which last on the skin for a few days. As there are no dress rehearsals regarding permanent tattoos, I always think it's a good idea to get a temporary tattoo of about the same size and design placed where you want the permanent one to go. This will give you a few days to decide whether if it's really what you want of not. Have fun!

The Bugs At Bay

Writen by Brian Aw

(NC)-With approximately 42,000 mosquitoes for every person in Ontario, most of us spend a great deal of our summers swatting away these pesky insects. Protecting yourself against mosquitoes will not only make your summer more enjoyable, it will help prevent you and your family from getting annoying and sometimes dangerous bug bites.

As a family physician, I recommend the following tips for a bug free summer.

  • Stay Scent-Free. Avoid using scented soaps, lotions and shampoos.

  • Gear Up. Cover your skin as completely as possible. This may be challenging by the beach, but when possible wear long sleeves, pants and socks.

  • Be Colour Conscious. Mosquitoes are attracted to blue, so avoid this colour and stick to neutral colours.

  • Use Repellent. Repellents containing DEET are most effective for areas with heavy mosquito or tick infestation.

  • Alternative Repellents. When applied frequently, citronella-based repellents can provide the same bug protection as products containing low concentrations of DEET. I recommend Natrapel®, which contains 10 percent citronella to ward off bugs for up to two hours.

  • Meal Time. Be alert to the time of day when certain insects are most active such as dawn and twilight.

  • Check Point. Upon returning indoors, check your children and yourself for bites.

  • Treatment. Sunburn and bite treatment products should be included in every outdoor adventurer's travel kit.

Ten Tips To Save On Gasoline

Writen by Jeffrey Strain

Gas prices continue to be near all time highs meaning that car travel is taking a a larger portion out of each of your paychecks. AAA estimates that the cost of driving a car including all direct and indirect costs has surpassed 50 cents a gallon with that price expected to rise.

Reducing the cost of driving your car can be done fairly easy simply by paying a bit more attention to your car. Here are 10 easy ways to cut the amount of gas your car uses:

1. Purchase your gasoline when it's coolest outside such as in the early morning or at night. Gas becomes denser in cooler temperatures. Since gas pumps only measure the volume of fuel - and not the density - you'll get better overall gas mileage for your money by purchasing fuel when it's cool outside rather than in the heat of the day.

2. Religiously check your car's tire pressure each month (make sure to purchase a good-quality dial-type gauge for yourself -- pencil-style gauges and the ones mounted on the air hose are unreliable according to federal government surveys). Under inflated tires reduce fuel efficiency by 2% for every pound they are under inflated. Under inflation also causes premature tire wear giving your tires a shorter use life.

3. Slow down and drive at the speed limit. Cars use about 20% more fuel driving at 70 miles per hour than they do at 55 miles per hour.

4. Avoid using air conditioning whenever possible. Air conditioning reduces fuel economy by 10% to 20%. Use the air ventilation system instead.

5. Don't drive with open windows when traveling at high speeds. Open windows on the highway can reduce fuel efficiency by 10%. It's much better to use the ventilation system.

6. Remove car racks and other items which make your car less aerodynamic when they're not being used. Leaving them on only makes your car less fuel efficient and costs you money.

7. There is no need to let your car idle. Even on cold mornings, cars don't need to idle more than 30 seconds. Newer cars are designed to be driven almost immediately and letting your car idle longer is a waste of gas.

8. It's more efficient to turn off your car and turn it on again than to let it idle for more than 45 seconds while waiting.

9. Remove all the excess weight from your car. Many people use their car trunk as a storage space adding unneeded pounds to the car's weight. This unnecessary weight reduces the car's fuel efficiency by about 1% for every 100 lbs.

10. For most cars, higher octane gas is simply a waste of money. Regular unleaded (approx. 87 octane or so) is the least expensive and what you should purchase. It's important to remember that octane is a measurement of how hard it is to ignite the gas, not the quality of the gas. Purchase mid or high octane gas only if your engine pings, knocks or rattles when using regular unleaded fuel.

Term Vs Whole Life Insurance Which Do You Need For Cheaper Insurance

Writen by Eunice Wallace

Two types of insurance policies Term and Whole Life are available in the insurance market. Most people are confused about the difference between the two policies. Most of the buyers are unable to decide which policy is best for them.

Before going in for any type of insurance you must know what you are buying and what benefit you will get from the insurance policy. You must know the differences between both the insurances. You must weigh all the options before you ink your deal for a particular insurance policy. Both policies have a different purpose and are not taxed.

Term Life Insurance and Whole Life Insurance- A Comparison

People mostly go in for term life insurance because it is beneficial for temporary or short time insurance needs. This type of insurance is suitable for those people who have just been employed and do not have the desired money to set aside for insurance, and those who foresee their future insurance needs are likely to change. It also gives you the option of selecting the exact period you want yourself to be covered by the insurance. The other advantage of term life insurance is that it has lower premium rate as compared to whole life insurance.

The lower premium rate is an attraction for the insurer as to why not invest the difference in amount between term life insurance and whole life insurance in something else for better yield. The only consideration you have to keep in mind is that term life insurance expires without any maturity and the premium increases at the time of renewal.

Whole life insurance policy provides insurance for whole life. It has a fixed premium and can be cashed in. It can be terminated any time and you can still remain insured for an adjusted amount. This type of insurance is best suited for those who have the finances and are looking for long term insurance needs.

Accumulation of cash value is considered as incidental benefit and not as an investment. The true value of whole life insurance is known only at retirement when you can use it as an income rather than as insurance or when you are in need of final expenses. This is the time when you need the retirement benefits most.

Basic concept of life insurance must be understood before selecting any policy. Reason out why you want insurance. Can you do without it? Consider your age, health, present and future needs. Most term life insurance policies can be converted in to whole life insurance policy at a later date. A combination of both insurances may be the best option.

40th Birthday Party Ideas For A Sensational Celebration

Writen by Dee Schrock

Is a 40th birthday party coming up and you're at a loss for ideas? Here are a few tips and ideas to help you get started.

You can create your own invitations by drawing 40th birthday theme such as "40" or over-the-hill gag themes.

A great themed 40th birthday party is 70's memorabilia. Have beanbag chairs handy for a groovy gathering. Share old stories about the guest of honor.

Wear bell-bottom Levi's or Wranglers or go all out with your leisure suit. Feather your hair like Farrah Fawcett or Andy Gibb.

Have the guest of honor wear a birthday crown or Happy Birthday hat. Be sure to complement their outfit with an "over-the-hill" cane.

What should you serve?

Have a table with punch, both spiked and plain. Foods can be easy finger foods, such as chips and dip, veggies, and cheese and crackers.

If you want to put in a bit of extra effort, offer sundaes or create a soda fountain in the corner of the room.

Serve your food of choice on these tie-dyed party plates and tableware. Drinks can be served in psychedelic light up glasses.

An easy choice of games is to play a game of 70's trivia. There are several available including Trivial Pursuit 70s/80s editions.

Play clips from 70's TV shows or movies and competing teams guess first what movie/show the song was from.

70's karaoke is lots of fun and gets everyone laughing.

Complete the night with Saturday Night Fever karaoke and disco contests. Happy 40th!

Couple Time Make It A Priority

Writen by Karen Fusco

You've seen them in restaurants – those older couples who eat slowly and quietly without looking or speaking to each other. In your newlywed years, you and your husband gaze at each other knowingly, and promise never to become like that yourselves.

Then …

You have kids. The two of you barely have time to speak to each other, and when you do, you talk about – what else? – the kids!

The only thing standing between you and the couple in the restaurant is time. Right now is the perfect moment to make a decision to place the relationship between you and your husband at the top of the priority list.

How do you do this? The first step is to firmly make that decision that being a couple is the focus of your marriage. This is a lot easier said than done, as children, no matter what their ages, are time-consuming and all-encompassing little creatures.

Don't be deterred. Once you've made the decision, you must back it up with action. Fortunately, the action doesn't have to be time-consuming or complex. It's as simple as remembering how it was to be a couple without kids.

Remember things like cooking your husband's favorite meal. Cook it regularly, and if the kids don't like it, make them something else. Or even better, feed the children early, and have a romantic dinner for two later (and don't forget to light those candles!). Not only will your husband appreciate your thoughtfulness, the time will give you two a chance to talk and reestablish your connection.

If your budget allows for it, hire a babysitter on a regular basis and go out. Getting away from the home, children and responsibilities makes it possible for you and your husband to relax and enjoy each other's company without fear of interruptions or feeling the pressure of your obligations. You can have dinner (or lunch), see a movie or just go for coffee. What you do and the time of day you do it isn't as important as actually making the time to do something just for the two of you.

Sharing daily household chores is another good way to keep the couple as the center of the family. Your husband can fill dishwasher while you clean the kitchen and put away the food. Or he can clean the kitchen while you make the next day's lunches. This gives you time to chat, catch up with each other, and stay in touch with what's on your partner's mind.

Even cleaning out the garage or attic together is a good way to both stay connected and share the overall workload so that neither of you feel overburdened and underappreciated. Those negative feelings work against any relationship, so sharing chores ensures that this won't happen to you. Together activities will reinforce your bond as a couple.

What about having that first cup coffee together before the children get up? If you're feeling adventurous, take your morning shower together! Most often couple time comes at the end of the day when you're both too tired to fully appreciate it – just about the time you'd rather fall into the deepest sleep possible. Making time for each other at the start of the day, however, means you're giving each other a portion of what is likely to be the best part of your day. And couple time should always be the best part of your and your partner's day.

Got Bedbugs Are They The New Flea

Writen by Nell Liquorman

If you discover that you have a bedbug problem, it is not likely that you will make an announcement. Folks in the US tend to attach a stigma to the possession of parasites. You can hardly get most people to admit that their pets have fleas, because it just is not the sort of thing that the average person wants other people to know.

So, now one has got to wonder, why do bedbugs keep popping up in the news? There must be more than a few and not just in a couple of hotel rooms. Sooner or later guests go home and sleep in their own beds. Bedbugs can get into night clothes and into dirty laundry in luggage, and when a guest leaves, these parasites go along for the ride. A new mattress did not come complete with bedbugs when the room was furnished. Most likely they arrived with a traveler in much the same manner that some of them will depart.

Like it or not, bedbugs are here, and they are populating. Some treatments will no doubt make the problem worse. Just look all the things that have been used in efforts to combat fleas over the last fifty to sixty years. Just read my article, GOT FLEAS? Fleas are more problematic than ever, yet there are more treatments. Plenty of fleas equates to plenty of repeat sales. Ah, a chemical company's dream has come true!

Are we destined for a similar scenario with bedbugs? Does the earth really need more toxins? Will hearts and livers tolerate the poisons?

Taking a common sense approach to flea control works to keep my two cats flea-free in Florida, so I don't expect to need a chemical fix to combat bedbugs. To the rest of the world, my advice is: Arm yourselves with some common sense knowledge regarding how to keep bedbugs off, before these nasty little bugs come to a mattress near you.

The History And Party Trivia Of Pinatas

Writen by Gail Leino

Many party goers think of Pinatas as a party game with its origin tied to the lands of Mexico. Instead, however, the origins of pinatas can be traced to Italy. Originally known as pignatta (which means "fragile pot" in Italian), pinatas were made of clay. They often were shaped into a symbol of hospitality used throughout Italy, the shape of a pineapple.

From Italy, the custom of breaking pinatas, migrated to Spain where the custom became tied very closely to the celebration of Lent. It was at this point in history that the name changed from pignatta to pinata. The pinatas themselves were still made of clay at this point and known by the Spanish as an olla, which was their word for "pot." Although the first pinatas were plain clay pots, people eventually started to put paper figures on the pots for decorations. The Spanish pinata had a religious significance to them. They believed that the pinata represented Satan and it was made beautiful and bright in order to offer a temptation to the innocents who came into contact with it. The Candies and toys that were placed inside of it, were the temptations of Satan. The person breaking the pinata was always blindfolded in order to represent blind faith and the stick used to break pinatas was said to be the symbol of all that was good. This was important because "good" had to overcome "evil" or in this case, Satan. Once the goodness overcame the evil, the treats that spilled out were said to be justified rewards of living a "good" life.

From Spain, missionaries took the customs of pinatas into Mexico where the Aztecs found the custom to be very close to customs and celebrations of their own cultures. For example, to celebrate the Aztec god of war, at the end of the year Aztec priests would place a clay pot on a pole in the community temple. The pot was filled with tiny treasures and was decorated on the outside with feathers of bright colors. The pot was then broken with the treasures falling to the base of the pole. These treasures were said to be an offering to the god of war and would bring about strength and goodness to the Aztecan people.

Today the ritual of breaking pinatas has less of a religious symbolism and is more about the fun and rewards attached to the activity. Pinatas can be purchased to complement almost any theme or character party making them a great option for a party activity. Party favors, candy, and little treasures can be tucked inside pinatas to be exploded upon the crowd of party guests as the pinata is broken. The resulting scurrying of guests and laughter as the treasurers are claimed make for smiles on all those looking on. To be sure everyone gets something from the pinatas, the party host should set aside little goody bags with replica treasures. The bags, which historically have been called colacion, will ensure that at a time of fun and laughter, no guests feel left out of the celebration.

How To Make Cooling Neck Ties

Writen by Brian Fogarty

Have you ever used a cooling necktie? If you have I bet two things surprised you. How they helped you keep cool and how much they cost. About $8 each. Ouch!

This article shows you how to make your own, for just a few cents.

Supplies you will need:

1 yd cotton fabric that is at least 42" wide and a maximum of 45". This will make 8 ties

Wash the fabric before use.

Water absorbing polymers these are available at hardware's for gardening or you can purchase them at Watersorb http://www.watersorb.com If ordering from Watersorb, order the medium granules.

A tape measure.
Sewing machine.
Scissors.

1. Cut or tear strips 4 1/2" wide by the fabric width eg. 45".

2. Fold fabric in half, right sides together, on the long edge sew the long seam.

3. Turn over and iron.

4.Mark the centre and stitch along it. Now you have a tube about 2" wide and 42" - 45" long.

5. Drop in 1/8 tsp of crystals on each side of the seam. You can roll up a piece of paper to use as a funnel to make it easier.

IMPORTANT: At first only make a test tie with the brand of polymers you're using to make sure its the correct amount after it's soaked.

6. Mark 4 1/2" from the centre and seam again.

Now you have 2 pockets with crystals.

7. Add another 1/8 tsp of in both sides and seam 4 1/2 inches from the first set of seams again. You will now have 4 pockets. Hopefully!!

8. Fold in raw edges and sew across to finish. If you prefer you can make the ends diagonal.

Care instructions:

* Place in cold water approx 30 min, until crystals become gel.
* Tie around head or neck. Tie will be more effective if placed in the refrigerator before use or soaked in ice cold water.
* Regenerate by soaking 1-3 minutes.
* Do not freeze
* Dehydrate to store
* Hand wash only with a mild soap

What To Make Of Those Nasty Body Impressions On Your Mattress

Writen by Terry McGee

Looked at your mattress lately? Is it a little lumpy? Does it seem to sink in showing where you lay every night? It this normal? What should I do? If you are like me, you don't like this much. It looks bad and you just don't like it. Hi. This is Terry L McGee, the former mattress salesman again with article two on buying a mattress. Before I was trained to sell a mattress, I had a completely different idea about body impressions on the mattress. I used to think this was a bad thing and it must mean my mattress was wearing out or it was a bad mattress to start with or something.

I must admit, I still don't like the way it looks, but body impressions are what you want. What did you say, Terry? That is right a body impression let's you know your mattress is working. It shows that the mattress is forming to your body shape and offering you support. If a mattress is too hard and does not conform to the shape of your body, you will not see much of a body impression.

Now this is not a way in itself to tell if your mattress suits you or not, so don't get confused. I just want you to know that it is normal for a mattress to show body impressions. If you think about it logically, you will realize that softer materials are used on top to bring softness and comfort to you. So naturally when you use soft materials, your body weight is going to compress these materials. Where you lie on the bed is going to be flatter than where you don't lay.

When you purchase a new mattress, it will be only be a short time, until you begin to see this impression in the mattress. If you start to notice an impression after a few weeks or months, you might get the impression that your mattress was no good or is going bad. But on the contrary, it is doing its job and working to bring you comfort. If you make a mattress out of material that is so dense and hard that it will not allow a body impression to be made with say 200 lbs., that would be a hard mattress indeed and probably very uncomfortable.

Point Of View Listening

Writen by Sarah Newton

Teenagers describe to me time and time again the following situation. They have a issue they are dealing with and they eventually decide to talk with their parents about it. So they pick their moment and start talking but no sooner have they started then the parent has broken into a speal of advice about what they did as a teenager, how they would handle the situation and what the teen should do. The teen listens walks away feeling dejected an don't understood and guess what still has the issue. So how do we break this common cycle. First remember three things when you are listening.

I am listening without judgment.
I am attempting to understand my teenagers point of view (interpretation) of this situation.
I am hearing the words but listening for the underlying core issue.
Easy you say - How do I do that.

Ok let me explain point of view listening. First of all why is it called point of view - as most of you know by now Diana was a film director before a coach. Point of View is the name given to a camera angle - the angle that makes us the viewers think we are looking through the eyes of the actor-less.

When a point of view shot is in a script the production crew know that the character disappears and the camera takes it place. This is essentially what you are trying to achieve you are getting inside your teens body and looking through their eyes seeing how life looks form that perspective.

Understanding what their structure of interpretation is the world, feeling how it must be to be them a teenager in today's society and all the challenges that must bring. This is a challenging skill and will take you a while to get the hang off.

Point of View is a three step process.

Listen with your lips shut - do not comment.
Ensure you are listening heart to heart.
Step into their point of view.
At first this may seam wired and unnatural but keep going when achieved this is an extremely powerful tool.

Let me give you an example of levels of point of view and how this may pan out.

Imagine the situation your teenage daughter comes come she has been the victim of a robbery. How do you respond.

1. Listen form your point of view.

Well they didn't have mobile phones in my days if you will have a phone what do you expect. You should report it they can not get away with this. I am never buying you anything again - you should of been ,more careful - I told you so

Pretty normal yeah we all experience this type of listening on a day to day basis.

2. Listening to their point of view.

Are you OK?, are you hurt? Did you go to the police? Where did it happen?

Here you are listening and just attempting to gain more information.

3. Listening from their point if view.

That must have been really shocking for you and very scary. It must be challenging been a teenager today with all this added responsibility. How can I support you.

Here you set into the teenagers body and look at life through their eyes and respond accordingly.

When you use this type of listening your tome must be neutral and you must ensure that you sound sincere.

So is nat to leave you with this Image to remind you how to practice his skill which believe me is lifelong learning.

1. Step and breath

2. Connect with your teenager heart to heart

3. physically imagine yourself standing behind your teenager

4. Now look at life through their eyes.

5. Respond.

Remember to have great fun with this and let me know how this powerful tool works for you.

Popular Ways To Congratulate The New Grad

Writen by Gillian Grantor

Gifts for the Graduate

Besides the traditional rites of spring, spring flowers blooming, baseball starting, grass sprouting, there is the celebration of a child's high school graduation. Shopping for a gift for the graduate is never easy, and depends on what they are doing after high school. Many times a son or daughter is off to college, or the military, while many may be entering the workforce or getting ready for marriage. You will see parents hurrying to the malls to find just the right gift to celebrate this important step. The chore is even more difficult if a child has no strong interest or hobbies. Here are some ideas for the perfect gift for the graduate.

The old fashioned greenback will be first on the list if you ask the graduate what he or she wants. That can also be the easiest choice for the giver as well. Every graduate likes that feel of cash in his hands so he can go and spend it on exactly what he wants. Tall, short, fat, thin boys, girls, blonds, brunettes or redheads: here's something they all agree upon: I'll take cash. As they say, one size fits all, and it never has to be returned, it matches anything you wear.

Another popular gift is the iPod. If you've got the kind of teen that tends to be-bop around with headphones wrapped around their head, then this is a great little gift. This musical mini-computer is capable of downloading an entire CD in less than five seconds and can typically store around 5,000 songs within its tiny data banks. These days, manufacturers usually throw in the option of a calendar and a number of other neat little technological doo-dads, as well.

Another mini-computer that a grad may appreciate is a PDA. PDAs do a lot more than just store and play music. This is a hand held computer that lets you store graphics, files, and movies in addition to music. It will also supply wireless internet access, wireless e-mail, voice recording, a digital camera, a calculator, a phone book,a web browser and more if you choose the right model. One with all those features, including Bluetooth compatibility will get pretty expensive, but is a good value for that many features.

Digital cameras make great gifts for new grads. Even if they haven't specifically shown an interest in the field of photography, these enable young adults to take those farewell photos that are so often popular among grads, and are also great for taking photos of their new "digs" once they leave for college or the military. Parents often appreciate the fact that this enables the new fledgling to stay in touch once they've left the nest, since pictures of this sort can be uploaded onto the nearest PC and sent off via e-mail.

If your grad is off to college, a laptop is probably the wisest choice for a gift, not only as a useful item, but also as a sound investment. It will be more expensive than the other items on the list, but your college bound grad is going to need a computer for research, writing papers and doing homework. It will also help to keep the student in touch, since it is easier to keep in contact over the computer. It may even prove to save money, since email is a lot cheaper than all those long distance phone calls to mom and dad.

Whatever you choose, your new grad is sure to appreciate the time and thought that you've put into their selection. Keep in mind that this is a special time of transition in their lives, so it's OK to give them something a bit extravagant without the fear of spoiling them. In other words, air out that wallet, and get out there and shop!

History Of Citrus

Writen by Patrick Malcolm

The pleasing appearance of citrus trees and the fruit was mentioned by many ancient travelers, even though the fruit of citrus trees had not evolved to the point as an important food staple, the fragrance of all parts of the citrus trees, including the flowers and fruit, were desirable perfumers of rooms and were thought to repel insects.

The occurrence of citrus in Europe and Mideast were thought to have been natural occurring native trees and shrubs, but historians today believe that the ancestor of the citrus trees, Citrus medica L., was introduced by Alexander the Great from India into Greece, Turkey, and North Africa in the late 4th century BC. The most ancient citrus was called 'citron.'

There are ancient clues from wall paintings in the Egyptian temple at Karnak that citrus trees had been growing there. There were other suggestions that citrus trees may have been familiar to the Jews during their exile and slavery by the Babylonians in the 6th century BC. Even though speculations suggest that citrus trees were known and grown by the Hebrews, there is no direct mention in the Bible of citrus.

The first recording of citrus, Citrus medica L., in European history was done by Theophrastus, in 350 BC, following the introduction of the fruit by Alexander the Great.

In early European history, writers wrote about Persian citrus, that it had a wonderful fragrance and was thought to be a remedy for poisoning, a breath sweetener, and a repellant to moths.

Citrus was well known by the ancient cultures of the Greeks and later the Romans. A beautiful ceramic tile was found in the ruins of Pompeii after the city was destroyed by a volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. Another mosaic tile in the ruins of a Roman villa in Carthage, North Africa, in about the 2nd century AD, clearly showed the fruit of a citron and a lemon fruit growing on a tree branch.

Early Christian tile mosaics dating back to 300 AD of both oranges and lemon were shown in lemon-yellow and orange colors surrounded by bright green leaves and freshly cut tree branches; the relics can still be seen in Istanbul, Turkey at mosques that once were churches of Emperor Constantine.

It is not known how, where, or when the exceptional present day varieties of citrus trees developed, such as the sweet orange, lemon, kumquat, lime, grapefruit, or pummelo, but there appears to be a general consensus of opinions that all these citrus developments and improvements were obtained by natural and artificial selection and natural evolution. It is well known, that the Romans were familiar with the sour orange, Citrus aurantium L. and the lemon tree, Citrus limon. After the fall of Rome to the barbarian invasions and the Muslims, the Arab states rapidly spread the naturally improving cultivars of citrus fruits and trees throughout much of North Africa, Spain, and Syria. The spread of sour orange, Citrus aurantium L., and the lemon, Citrus limon, extended the growing and planting of these trees on a worldwide scale by planting the seed, which produced citrus trees very similar to the parent trees. The Crusades conquest of the Arabs later spread citrus planting and growing throughout Europe.

The sweet orange, Citrus sinensis, appeared late in the 1400's, near the time of Christopher Columbus, who discovered America. After trade routes were closed when the Turks defeated the Eastern Roman Empire in 1453, centered in Constantinople (Istanbul), many European kings began to seek alternate, trade, sea routes to open trade by ships with China and India. The sweet orange tree introduction into Europe changed the dynamics of citrus fruit importance in the world. The voyage of Portuguese explorer, Vasco de Gamma, recorded that in 1498, there were multitudes of orange trees in India, and all the fruits had a sweet taste. The new sweet orange variety, known as the "Portugal orange" caused a dramatic surge in citrus planting, much like the much later appearance of the "Washington navel orange" tree introduction into California.

The lime, Citrus latifolia, was first mentioned in European history by Sir Thomas Herbert in his book, Travels, who recorded that he found growing "oranges, lemons, and limes" off the island of Mozambique in the mid 1600's. Lime trees today are available in many cultivars.

In 1707, Spanish missions were growing oranges, fig trees, quinces, pomegranates, peaches, apricots, apples, pear trees, mulberries, pecans, and other trees according to horticultural documents.

The Mandarin orange, Citrus reticulata, was described in Chinese history in the late 1100's, but was unknown in Europe, until it was brought from a Mandarin province in China to England in 1805, where it spread rapidly throughout Europe.

The pummelo, Citrus grandis, also called the shaddock and the 'Adam's Apple' was growing in Palestine in the early 1200's and was planted and grown by the Arabs. The pummelo is believed to have an Asian origin and was planted as seed in the New World.

The grapefruit, Citrus paradisi, is believed to have arisen as a mutation from the pummelo tree. Grapefruit were so named because they grew in clusters like grapes, but most gardeners considered them to be inedible until A.L. Duncan found an outstanding seedling grapefruit that was named Duncan grapefruit in 1892; the original tree is still alive and growing in Florida.

Christopher Columbus introduced citrus on the island of Haiti in 1493. It is believed that he brought citrus seed to be planted and grown of the sour orange, the sweet orange, citron, lemon, lime, and pummelo fruits. Records show that these citrus trees were well established in the American colonies in about 1565 at Saint Augustine, Florida, and in coastal South Carolina.

William Bartram reported in his celebrated botanical book, Travels, in 1773 that Henry Laurens from Charleston, South Carolina, who served as a President of the Continental Congrees, introduced "olives, limes, ginger, everbearing strawberry, red raspberry, and blue grapes" into the United States colonies after the year 1755.

William Bartram in his book, Travels, reported that near Savannah, Georgia, "it is interesting to note that as late as 1790, oranges were cultivated in some quantity along the coast, and in that year some 3000 gallons of orange juice were exported."

Many of these wild orange groves were seen by the early American explorer, William Bartram, according to his book, Travels, in 1773, while traveling down the Saint John's River in Florida. Bartram mistakenly thought these orange trees were native to Florida; however, they were established centuries earlier by the Spanish explorers.

The citrus industry began rapidly developing in 1821 when the Spanish gave up their territories and its many orange groves to the United States. Wild orange tree groves were top-worked with improved cultivars and residents traveling to Florida realized how refreshing orange juice tasted; thus began the shipments of oranges, grapefruit, limes, and lemons that were sent to Philadelphia and New York by railway and ships in the 1880's.

Citrus plantings were extensively done in California by the Spanish missionaries; however, the commercial industry began to grow with the 1849 Gold Rush boom, and efforts to supply the miners from San Francisco with citrus fruit were successful. The completion of the Transcontinental Railway further stimulated the citrus industry, since citrus could be rapidly sent to eastern markets. Later improvements of refrigeration helped to increase citrus growing and planting, mainly oranges, lemons, and limes throughout the world in 1889.

Florida at first dominated citrus production in the United States, but because of some devastating freezes in 1894 and 1899, Satsuma orange trees were virtually wiped out in the Gulf States. Thousands of acres of Satsuma orange trees were wiped out in Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana in the hard freeze of 1916; thus the citrus production of the United States began to shift from Florida to California.

Citrus is marketed throughout the world as a beneficial health fruit that contains Vitamin C and numerous other vitamins and minerals in orange and citrus products lime marmalade, fresh fruit, and frozen and hot-pack citrus juice concentrates.

An Easy Way Out Eight Reasons Why You Should Preplan Your Funeral

Writen by Sharon Hurley Hall

Most people want to put off thinking about their funerals. However, you can save your loved ones a good deal of hassle by doing some of the planning in advance. Here are eight reasons why it's a good idea to have a prepaid funeral plan.

1. Your wishes will be carried out.

What you want to happen will take place. This is vitally important to most people.

2. The Funeral Director's costs are fixed from the outset so your family will be spared financial obligations - nothing hidden!

You'll know that your funeral director will not be able to increase their fees agreed with you by contract.

3.You can choose the plan you want and you can specify your own 'extras'.

You can plan your pre-paid funeral plan to your own satisfaction.

4. You spare your family from difficult decisions

Who really wants to make those decisions apart from the person themselves?

5.Your own finances may be improved

You may be entitled to benefits form local authorities if your total finances are below certain levels.

6. You won't worry about the safety of your money - it will be held in trust

You can't pay money directly to the plan provider's bank account.

7. Another family member may need the plan before you

You can transfer the plan to another family member if their need arrives before your own. Some couples buy just one plan and use it for whoever dies first and then buy a second plan, but it's more cost effective to buy two at the start to save money from inflation.

8. Those you leave behind will remember your thoughtfulness

This is very important to most people. When we leave this life we like to think that others thought well of us.

Angels Named Michael

Writen by Michael Webbametto

Michael is a very famous name. Think about it. How many famous Michael's can you think of?

The first one I think of is the Archangel Michael. I'm no Biblical scholar, but I do remember that one. And isn't there something about "Michael rowed the boat ashore?" Alleluia! Most of us learned that tune in Sunday school years and years ago. So Michael is a famous name in the Bible.

Michelangelo is actually the same name. It's just a little longer. You probably noticed that there are two parts to it. It means "Michael Angel." His paintings were certainly angelic, and his sculptures were, too. He's the one who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and carved David out of a stone. People from all over the world travel to see his famous artworks.

Lately, we've heard a lot about a Michael who's both famous and infamous. Michael Jackson? Now there's a story. Are you old enough to remember the Jackson 5? Or the cartoon of them that came later? The boy was talented that's for sure. His trials were headline news for a long time a while back, but that's all over now. I hope everyone involved can find some peace. Maybe angels are watching over them.

In sports, there's Michael Jordan. Basketball, right? There are a lot of famous actors named Michael. Michael Douglas is one of my favorites. I thought he was so romantic in those movies back when. Do you remember, "Romancing the Stone?" Wasn't there a John Travolta movie where he played an angel? Was his name Michael?

In the not-so-famous realms, we have all known someone named Michael. I can probably think of someone named Michael from nearly every class in school from first grade on up. And there have been times in my life when there were so many Michaels, that we called them by their last names so we didn't get confused. I can think of 5 or 6 Michaels that I know right now!

Famous or not, Michael is a good name. Some of them are angels.

Michael Webbametto always found himself surrounded by others with the same first name. Finally, he decided to create a website in honor of all Michael s. Find out more about people with the name Michael at Fun With Michael

Internet Infidelity Are You Prepared To Know The Truth

Writen by C Caldwell

Some of the most frequent signs of internet infidelity include: excessive time online, particularly at times when you are not around, Instant Messengers and Email accounts to which you do not have access, closing or shutting down the computer when you approach, positioning the computer so that no one can easily view the monitor, the history and temporary internet files are deleted after each use, compulsion to use the computer at times that are inconvenient for you or the family, large amounts of time spent in chat rooms and/or instant messengers and sharing photos with strangers online.

The most significant sign you can have is a gut feeling about what your spouse is doing online. You can take an average adult who is both moral and committed to his or her family and find them readily sucked into the allure of the internet. It is a powerful and hypnotic escape from the reality of bill paying, responsibilities and the humdrum of everyday life.

If you are currently experiencing that gut feeling about your spouse or mate, the most important thing you can do at this time is to keep you suspicions to yourself. Do not say or do anything to alert them that you are concerned about their activities. This will only cause them to become more secretive about what it is they do online or in real life. The truth is that most people have no idea how their computer works on their internet and the evidence they leave behind. You can easily use this to your advantage to find out exactly what is going on in your home.

The first step is preparing yourself for the worst thing you can find. The bottom line of checking into your spouse's activities is that you may find the one thing you thought you could never survive – infidelity, pornography, etc. You MUST be prepared to deal with what you find emotionally or you will tip your hand before you have all the information you need to confront your spouse and/or make decisions about your future with or without your spouse. You may want to consult with trusted family or friends that will be able to deal with your spouse after all that you have suspected has been resolved.

The second step is to start a journal or log of events including dates and times. When someone becomes addicted or compulsive about a behavior, they tend to lie extensively to cover up their shame. They may try to convince you that you are crazy or you do not know what you are talking about. It is imperative that you become a non-biased observer so that you don't allow your emotions to cloud the truth. You will ultimately need to become educated about how to find out what has been done on the internet on your computer and document this as well.

The different between knowing and not knowing may save your family or your life. Pornography addiction has been proven to cause people to engage in high risk activities that may expose them to diseases such as AIDS. Hopefully, with early intervention on your part, the internet addiction can be interrupted without life long consequences to you.

C. Caldwell is founder of Expose-Your-Mate.com, a website assisting others in exposing their spouses internet addictions and getting the help they need to recover from online pornography addiction.

Workshops Weekend Warriors

Writen by Bernadette Mettarod

I love to spend my weekends taking good workshops. In all the profiles we are asked to create on the web these days, especially the dating sites, we are asked to list our hobbies and interests. Unfortunately, mine is never in the list! I don't like sports or hiking or biking much. I don't ski or watch television. I like to go to workshops. My ideal date is going to hear Byron Katie or Eckhart Tolle or Marianne Williamson speak on Friday night or attend their latest weekend workshop. I'm a weekend workshop warrior!

Even people who didn't like school very much are into taking workshops. Why?

Well, for one thing, they are far more practical. You can take a workshop on how to improve your financial health, like Quantum Wealth by Steven Sashen. Maybe you want to have a great relationship. Then you can visit Institute for Spiritual Partnership, The Loving Relationships Training or Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks workshop on how to have a great relationship. Or you can learn to meditate with many different groups, such as Transcendental Meditation, Rudra Meditation, Vipassana Meditation and more. If you want to be more active, take a workshop on Yoga or Pilates or Tai Chi.

For me, going to a workshop, instead of a bar on the weekend offers me a chance to go deeper into my life. I get to talk to people about the things that really matter to me. I meet new friends and learn new ways to handle the situations in my life. Rather than adding to my problems by socializing at a superficial level, workshops help me to connect with others in meaningful ways. I like to say that my workshops are stress-reducing, rather than stress producing!

Often I do go to parties and chanting groups and meditation groups that are affiliated with some of the workshops I have taken. I might go to a yoga workshop and then a potluck afterwards where people bring healthy food. We have fun. It's just a little different than drinking beers with the boys or playing Texas Hold 'Em.

Rainy Day Fun For The Whole Family

Writen by Karen Fusco

Nothing can dampen spirits like a rainy day. Kids aren't the only ones who get cranky when they're cooped up inside. So to stop those rainy day doldrums before they happen, take a look at these 9 Great Rainy Day Ideas.

1. Pull Out The Board Games. In an era where X-Box and PlayStation rule, the joy of playing board games has fallen by the wayside. Rainy days are perfect for pulling out the Scrabble board or Bingo cards or even the Candyland game for the little ones. Crazy Eights anyone? Everyone will get so caught up in the games that they won't even notice the gray skies outside.

2. Have A Rainy Day Party. Let everyone dress up in their best clothes, and serve lunch or dinner on that good china you never use. Someone can play DJ and you can all dance away your discontent. Celebrate the rain. You'll find that you dread future rainy days less, and so will your family.

3. Walk. Yes, outside in the rain. Everyone gets dressed in their rainy day gear and then it's outside for a tour of the neighborhood. Puddle splashing is allowed! Getting wet won't hurt anyone—unless they're that witch from the Wizard of Oz—and it will be a great stress reliever. Actually, your kids will be so shocked, they'll probably look at you with awe for the rest of the day—and even better, forget to whine about being bored.

4. Create A Family Time Capsule. Putting together a time capsule is always a big hit with family members of all ages. Even teenagers will put their iPods down and get into the fun of making a time capsule. Set the time for pulling it out to be same time, next year—or even a rainy day a month from now. You'll have to help younger children, of course, but imagine their excitement when they see the time capsule in a year!

5. Start A Rainy Day Scrapbook. Let everyone design and create their own pages. Drawings, magazine cut-outs and photos will fill the pages. It can be an ongoing scrapbook or simply one for this particular rainy day. An ongoing rainy day scrapbook has the advantage of being a rainy day activity you won't have to plan for again and will give everyone in the family something to look forward to doing the next time it rains.

6. Visit A Museum. Museums offer a wide variety of activities for people of all ages. They're generally reasonable in cost to begin with, and charge less for weekdays. They're also great learning experiences and something your family doesn't do every day, so they're something special.

7. Give Each Family Member An Hour To Be In Charge. For one hour, they get to be king or queen of the rainy day and chose an activity for everyone else. This lets everyone in the family feel important and get to do what they enjoy most. You'll have to lay down some ground rules, of course, but letting everyone have an hour to be in charge will keep them busy not just for the hour, but for a lot longer as they make their plans.

8. Write Letters And Make Cards. To take everyone's mind off their disappointment with the rainy day, have them think of others who aren't as fortunate. A good way to do this is to have everyone in the family, including Mom and Dad, make cards for people in the hospital or write letters to soldiers or people in a foreign country. You can find sources online that will ensure your cards and letters are delivered anywhere in the world. This is also a good chance to teach children and teens about what living is really like in some countries.

9. If All Else Fails, Load Up The Car or Mini-Van and Head To Grandma's. She's probably suffering from some rainy day doldrums herself and will be thrilled to see you. It's also a free place to go where everyone feels comfortable just as they are. Just a note, though – you might want to call first. Grandma might be out and about taking a rainy day tour around her own neighborhood, and you wouldn't want to miss her.

Need A Maid

Writen by Lance Winslow

The best place to get a live in slave like maid is to go to the Catholic Church and give good tithing then make it known that you are need of such a person to clean your house and do those things you don't feel like doing. Here is how it works. Tell the person in charge who has been watching your children closely and eyeing them over that you need a maid. Make sure you are in good standing with the church by showing up a few times and donating money. The more visible you are the better. Eventually they will introduce you to an illegal alien who is a member of the church who has a relative still living in Mexico who is looking for a job and wants to come to the United States.

You see the Catholic Church is an international network and they can get things done. They can keep one who has been a child molester or helped in the molesting of kids safe from prosecution or help break the laws of our country by illegally importing people into economic slavery thru their channels of illegal immigration. Additionally they can make the person they help import feel guilty for their sins so they send part of their monies earned here back to Mexico so those families their in turn make healthy tithing in Mexico. You see now how all this works?

If you need labor to run a business and make more money you can simply get in with the Catholic Church's network and have all the labor you need. They are glad to help knowing that they have control over the minds of these people and are able to tap into those earnings in tithing and donations, not to mention volunteerism for fundraising activities. By you taking advantage of this cheap labor and exploitation of the Hispanic Populations, you are assisting the Catholic Church continue their support of illegal immigration. Everyone wins. In fact the Catholic Churches in Mexico are on a promotional mission to encourage illegal immigration to the United States and thus are able to get larger tithing from those family members remaining as the illegal immigrants send back much of their earnings to Mexico.

The Catholic Church is quick to defend their efforts and ever quicker to admonish anyone calling them slave traders, explaining they are merely helping parishioners seek a better quality of life. Even if some of those they encourage to come here, do so thru joining of the MS-13 Gangs which are swelling in numbers in the United States. MS-13 as you know has grown to over 10,000 young gang members and is said to be responsible for over 26% of the current drug trade and 11.8% of all criminal violent deaths in the United States.

So if you need a maid in your home to do your dirty work, you need to seek the professional help of the Catholic Church, which specializes in such things. Word to the wise; keep your kids at home. Think about it.

Rocking Chair

Writen by Randi Foerde

For anyone who is a parent or just likes to pass time on the porch, a rocking chair is a must. The swaying back and forth can be so soothing that it will literally put a person to sleep. That's why many expecting mommies will purchase a rocking chair. During last night feedings or disturbances, rocking the child will calm them and they will eventually fall right to sleep. Within minutes, most children will calm down thanks to the motion of a rocking chair. It is definitely a nursery must.

However, it's not just nice for the children; it's a nice chair to have in your home because it is so relaxing. Many people have a rocking chair outside on their deck or they will have a rocking chair on their porch. On restless nights, you could go outside in the hot summer air and have time to think or just relax. For those who suffer from sleepless nights, a rocking chair can calm the nerves and relax the body. Once the body and nerves became relaxed, sleep should come soon.

Although many people own a rocking chair, not everyone owns a rocking chair to sway. Many times people will have a rocking chair in the room to give it a homier feel. It can also be used as part of the décor because many people use the rocking chair in the designs to get the country look. Rather it's for show or to rock, you can bet a throw will be on the chair. Rocking chair's are very beautiful and usually handcrafted wood. To give it a more subtle look sometimes a throw will be laid on the back of the rocking chair.

No one really knows how much work goes into making a rocking chair. It may just seem like a regular chair placed on curved wood, but it's more than that. The back of the chair must be slighted just right or the person will tip. The legs of the "chair" are much shorter and have to be just the right angle. Finally, the slop in the runners and the placement of the legs has to be just right or the chair won't be stable.

Knowing all of that, it could take months or even a year to make the perfect rocking chair. Their balance of difficulty layouts and simplistic designs is what makes the rocking chair a classic. There is so much hard work that much goes into one and yet it can look like it didn't take much to even build it. Many people will add their own twist on their rocking chair by carving designs in the wood before putting it all together. The rocking chair is perfect for anyone from six months to 60 years old; everyone loves a rocking chair and they look good too.

Ceramic And Pottery Defects 5 Defects Generated During Bisk Firing Operations

Writen by John T Jones, Ph.D.

The purpose of bisk firing is (1) to completely vitrify or densify a ceramic body in the case of bone china, fine china, and industrial ceramics or (2) to partially vitrify a body in the case of porcelain.

Taking porcelain first, Case (2), the body is taken to a temperature to which enough strength is developed to be automatically handled in glazing operations (in modern factories) but porous enough to be easily glazed by dipping methods.

Porcelain wear does not have to be supported during bisk firing and defects generated are usually chips or breakage from handling.

Kiln dirt can cause defects here, but rarely. If they are formed, they often be removed by grinding methods.

Sometimes sand, perhaps alumina, is placed between dinner plates so they can be stacked without any chance of sticking. This sand is easily removed by subsequent operations. If a speck of sand is left on the wear during glazing, it will cause a glost ware defect as described in the next article.

In the first case, Case (1), the body is heated on a temperature / time cycle where full strength is developed (usually through sintering) in non-glazed industrial ceramics.

For fine china and bone china, the body develops maximum translucency through vitrification.

The wear often has to be supported during firing.

Three major problems relate to the high-temperature firings of Case (2). The first problem is shrinkage. The second problem is slump. The third problem is drag. These factors play a major part in the distortion of large parts during firing.

For fine china and bone china, the dinner plates and similar items are fired in refractory saggers. The ware settles into the shape of the sagger as it softens during firing. Therefore, the ware is fully supported. The saggers are covered so there is no kiln contamination. Operations may be required to remove any particles from the ware before glazing.

Small parts are not a problem for industrial ceramics. Larger parts are a different matter.

The shrinkage and slump and drag factors must be known.

Shrinkage is caused as the particles move together during sintering or vitrification.

Slump is due to the weight of the part on itself.

Drag is due to the friction between the part and its setter or the kiln car deck.

A shrinkage block of a body can be formed into a two-diameter cylinder about 3 inches high with a top half diameter of perhaps 1-3/4 inches and a bottom diameter of 2 inches. The drag shrinkage is determined by the diameter of the block touching the kiln car deck or setter, the slump is determined by measuring the total and shoulder height of the block, and the normal shrinkage is determined by measuring diameters not affected by drag or slump.

An example of how large cylindrical shapes are fired will illustrate what sometimes must be done.

A setter is machined from the same material as the cylinder. This base setter is coated with a solution of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) and sprinkled with sand (alumina). For smaller cylinders this step can be omitted.

On top of this is placed a step setter. The step is about 3/8 inch.

The ceramic cylinder has its ends coated with a solution of PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), dipped in setting sand (perhaps alumina), and is placed on the step setter.

The upper step is the diameter of the ceramic cylinder. (Well leave a few thousandths.)

The step setter maintains the lower diameter of the part. As the base setter shrinks, the base setter (and step setter) will shrink, pulling the cylinder in with it.

But we are not firing yet.

A hollow cylinder (perhaps 2 inches in diameter) made of the same material as the part is placed on the step setter dead center.

A top step setter, treated as above, is placed on top of the ceramic part, its minor diameter fitting into the cylinder and resting on top of the inner support cylinder.

The support cylinder will decrease slump caused by the weight of the top step setter.

The top step setter maintains the diameter of the part.

After firing, the cylinder will not be perfect, but if there is enough grind stock and the upper and lower diameter have been maintained during firing, the part can be machined to the specified dimensions.

I'm not able to illustrate this in this article. I hope you see it in your mind: A larger cylinder resting on a step setter with a step setter on top, the steps maintaining diameter as they fit into the cylinder. An inner cylinder supports the top step setter. Got it?

For some shapes and very large cylinders, a refractory solid support cylinder is used. In this case, the support is placed right on the kiln deck. A hole is cut in the base and bottom step setters to accommodate the refractory shape.

To protect shapes from shrinkage, drag, and slump, you must design the firing fixtures for every affected part. Sometimes bubble alumina comes in handy. Aluminum silicate wool such as Fiberfrax® can be useful for support at fine china bisk temperatures and lower. There are a thousand chums, setters, and tricks used in the industry. New ones are invented every day.
